SB Broneske Vibration Mounts Combine
Heat resistance and structure-borne noise reduction
SB Broneske combines heat resistance and structure borne noise reduction
The SB Broneske vibration mounts fix points are specially designed for the exhaust pipe system of ships (maritime environment). We produce our vibration mounts fix points with a special high effective heat resistant elastomer. Because of this they are shear-proof, fire-proof, heat resistant up to 300° Celsius and very effective reducing vibrations and structure-borne noise.
SB Broneske vibration mounts combine heat resistance and elastomeric reduction of body sound. SB Broneske is the exclusive technology leader of the elastic support of the exhaust pipe system. The SB Broneske elastomer is heat resistant up to 300° Celsius. In a series of tests in 1990th, our company investigated the temperature at the vibration mount.
Temperature at the exhaust pipe system
The exhaust pipe system of ships usually gets between 290°C (two stroke engines) and 550°C (four stroke engines) hot. Insulation material covers the exhaust pipes to protect operators and limit the heat transfer from pipe into engine room and funnel casing. Without insulation, the surface of the exhaust pipe would get 300°C or more. With insulation, the surface of the insulation might be 150°C.
Elastomeric vibration mount with natural rubber are only heat resistant up to 80°C. If the temperature at the surface of the insulation is usually 150°C, the elastomeric rubber vibration mounts with a limit of 80°C would melt. Some other suppliers use ceramic insulation washers. But this does not really help. In difficult installation places, the natural rubber vibration fix points melt.
Steel wired mesh vibration mounts are heat resistant up to 600°C. The maximum temperature of steel springs is limited by the steel temperature properties.
FEM investigation and temperature measurements
SB Broneske displays the result of the experimental series in the subsequent temperature curve. If the exhaust pipe temperature is 500° Celsius high, the temperature at the insulation (100 mm) is not higher than 140° Celsius. The temperature at the bracket (vibration mount) is lower than 100° Celsius.
Rubber is the best material to reduce structure-borne noise
Body sound is responsible for the noise on board of vessels. The best material to reduce vibration and body sound is elastomeric rubber. Steel springs (wired mesh) only reduce the vibrations, but not the body sound. The speed of body sound inside elastomeric rubber is 90 m/s, the speed inside steel (deck, bulkhead, also wired mesh spring) is 5000 m/s.
Rubber vibration mount: The change of body sound from pipe [steel (5000 m/s)] to rubber [vibration mount (90 m/s)] to deck [steel (5000 m/s)] is very effective.
Reduction of the body sound up to 99%.
